Jurrasic Park

Jurrasic Park

Science fiction

So you've got a seventh grade boy who's a reluctant reader? Have you tried introducing him to Crichton's classic science fiction novel that was the basis for the super-famous movie? This book is way better than the movie! There's so much more story that they couldn't fit in the film. It goes deeper into Chaos Theory, cloning, and the zoological behavior of the dinosaurs. And the book is action-packed, filled with smart characters trying to survive against dinosaurs out to kill them! Once the park shuts down and the dinosaurs get loose, you just can't put the book down! A super fun thriller!

Biography/Memoir

Who doesn't like the movies? Well, this funny memoir from standup comedian Patton Oswalt (the voice of the rat in the Pixar movie) describes the negative outcomes from being addicted to film watching.  It's actually hilarious and can be nostalgic for folks who grew up in the 90's, the Tarantino/Miramax generation when indie filmmakers were growing on trees. Oswalt takes us on his journey as a rookie standup comic and a purveyor of great cinema, traveling across the country playing clubs and buying movie tickets in art-house theaters showing old Orson Welles movies or French New Wave films.  It's a quick fun read and a lesson in movies and comedy.  Highly recommended.
